A high proportion of children live in dysfunctional families in the Wola district of Warsaw. They have no sense of belonging or security; they are not socially functional and lack coping skills; their school performance is poor.
The project addressed the needs of these children and young people. It focused on helping them pursue their interests, make new friends, grow physically, intellectually and emotionally. It also provided education support for families and schools. The mission of the Without Frontiers Club launched in the Wola community is to combat social exclusion. With its multicultural format, the club creates opportunities to develop tolerance and respect towards individuals from different cultures, which is vital is the capital city.
While experiencing the world in its global dimension children discover and develop openness and acceptance of diversity. The organisation supported 40 children (20 remained longer in the process) and 28 parents.
The project included psychological consultations, social therapy, psycho-education and intercultural workshops and thematic workshops in travel journalism, IT and photography. Children took part in street working, sports and arts activities; two compelling projects were offered to children: an intercultural project with Zambia and a travel journalism project called "Once upon a time or lately in Africa". Outdoor photography and sports activities were offered during the day and in the evenings, children could watch films and play board games with their families. The Summer/Winter in the City programme offered a number of excursions. Tutoring was offered to help children improve their school performance. The project targeted children aged 8 - 16 in the Wola district of Warsaw.
The project was implemented in partnership with the Prolog Jabłonna Social Therapy and Sports Association which invited children to two outdoor activities within the Masovia Marathon MTB and delivered social therapy throughout the project.
