Project description
Limited public participation appears to be of Poland's major challenges as the country notes very low levels of public confidence and citizens believe they 'cannot make a difference'. This is particularly felt in rural communities, where people generally believe they are unable to control or even scrutinize government.
Local independent press plays an instrumental role in changing such beliefs and attitudes.
The project aimed at developing young community journalists.
The project established a Youth Journalism Support Centre to develop youth journalists and provide guidance for those who are considering this role but do not have sufficient knowledge and skills.
The Centre delivered 30 journalism workshops attended by 64 individuals in six locations in the Łódź Province: Local Community Centre in Bolimowo, Secondary School in Głuchów, Community Centre in Łęczyca, B.Prus High school in Skierniewice, Kopernik High school in Wieruszów and John Paul II Secondary School in Zgierz.
The workshops were followed by two CC online publications: Education Package for Trainers of Journalism Working with Youth and Youth Community Journalist Manual.
