Project description
Persons working in non-governmental organisations have quite often problems with the stability of their employment which result from the prevailing method to employ people on a project basis. Moreover, they have often limited capabilities to enjoy protection from PIP or trade unions in view of the fact that they are often employed based on civil law contracts. Instability of employment, low salaries, and also cases of violating employment rights highlighted by media, in the context of low general knowledge on the third sector, damage the image of all non-profit organisations.
The aim of the project was to protect the rights of persons employed in non-governmental organisations: employees, members, volunteers. As the activities led under the project were focused on three areas, Research, Education and Support, it was possible to develop a comprehensive response to the needs of persons employed in non-governmental organisations and to fill the gap in internal control of the third sector in the field of the existing working conditions.
A pioneer survey was conducted and a nationwide debate was initiated and directed on the labour conditions in non-governmental organisations. The permanent results of the project consist in initiating partnership with the National Federation of Non-Governmental Organisations OFOP and joining the nationwide activities of the partnership for improving employment conditions in non-governmental organisation and the image of the third sector as an employer. A seminar, regional meetings and a debate were organised, and legal and psychological advices were given. The web page containing expert texts and advices was launched. Qualitative research were conducted on the conditions of work in non-governmental organisations, and a report discussing their results and specific recommendations for changes was published in 3200 opies and widely distributed in the sector, made available under CC license.
The project benefited persons working in non-governmental organisations, and the whole third sector in general which was the recipient of the diagnosis and the developed recommendations.
