The analysis of over 50,000 complaints submitted yearly to the Ombudsman demonstrates that citizens very often fail to understand received documents, forms and instructions which sometimes results in serious consequences. Insufficient access to understandable and transparent information and to the templates of legal documents constitutes a significant problem furthering the exclusion of the disabled.
The aim of the project was to facilitate the use of the law for persons with disabilities through the development of tools including important legal information presented in an understandable language and in a user-friendly graphical form.
Six interactive infographics and more than 30 fill-in forms were developed.
Based on the analysis of problems which are most often reported by the disabled subjects and issues were selected and mapped out in six interactive infographics and more than 30 fill-in forms (instructions, document templates, information). They were developed in such a way so that people who look for information and help could use them on their own, but also so that they would support the work of persons giving legal and citizen advice or those engaged in legal education.
The tools were arranged into six thematic areas: employment, allowances and benefits, succession and inheritance, housing, debts and court proceedings, consumer rights. An interdisciplinary group including volunteers and the disabled prepared and tested the tools.
The tools were made available on the websites of INPRIS, various organisations and public institutions. They were also presented to selected government and self-government bodies, and organisations and entities engaged in legal and citizen counselling. They are used in five Information Centres belonging to the project partner.
The beneficiaries of the project included the disabled who have difficult access to legal counselling.
The Project’s Partner participated in the planning of activities, works of the expert group, testing of tools and dissemination of results.
